Fire Bans Lifted at Worth Ranch, SR2, Hills & Hollows, Tahuaya
Worth Ranch, SR2, Camp Tahuaya, and Hills and Hollows Fire Bans are Over.

Worth Ranch:
FIRES ALLOWED in existing fire rings. Dead leaves & tinder must be swept away from the ring to a distance of six feet. Fires must be kept small – knee high unless approved by Camp Ranger. Cooking is allowed on the McClure Property. Camp Ranger’s approval required for all fires.

Camp Shuman: The following rules are still in effect: NO outdoor flames or fires of any kind from any source. This includes propane & gas stoves and heaters, as well as charcoal, wood, matches, lighters, cigarettes, etc.

Scout Show - Killeen
The 2006 Longhorn Council Scout Show is designed to showcase Scouting to the community while giving Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Venture Crews and

Explorer Posts the opportunity to raise money for spring and summer activities.

On April 8, 2006 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Killeen Special Events Center the

Longhorn Council's Leon Valley District will present the best our Packs, Troops,

Crews and Posts have to offer as they demonstrate and display the fun and learning

activities of Scouting around Killeen and Fort Hood and the rest of the Leon Valley

District.

Council Annual Banquet and Annual Business Meeting
The banquet will feature the great accomplishments of the volunteers in the

Longhorn Council. Special presentations will include the Silver Beaver Awards given

for outstanding service to youth in the Longhorn Council.

Silver Beaver Award Nomination forms are due in one of the council office by 5PM

on March 1st. Click on the title for a Banquet Reservation Form.

Spring Canoe Race
Two races: a 6-mile Fun Race from Worth Ranch to the Highway 4 bridge and a

14 mile Race for experienced canoeists from the Dam to camp. 100-yard War

Canoe Race in the afternoon. 14-Mile racers will launch early. 6-Mile racers will

have assigned start times to avoid congestion at the launch point. Lunch, boats,

equipment, awards, and supper provided. Open to Boy Scouts, Venturers,

Explorers, and adults. Parent/Youth teams welcome. Be sure to get the Early

Registration Discount!

Battle of the Mexia: High Adventure Living History Weekend
Join the Chisholm Trail Adventure staff and Venturing Crew 1872 at the Battle of

Mexia Civil War Reenactment, in Mexia, TX. You’ll wear the uniform, learn the

drill, eat the food, and live the life of a trooper in the 1860’s. Open to: Boy Scouts,

Varsity Teams, and Venturing; must be 14 to participate. Venture Crew Members

can work on their Outdoor Living History Elective for the Ranger Award.

Rock Climbing Training (& Rock/Tower Recert. Classes)
This course is designed to certify ADULTS to lead climbing and rappelling activities

for their units on rock. Completion of this training qualifies the participant as a BSA Instructor, able to lead single or multi-unit activities at any location. Course is Friday evening through late Sunday afternoon at SR2. There is no class size limit, but

pre-registration is required. At Sid Richardson Scout Ranch.
 

April 28-30, 2006

NRA Instructor Course Weekend 1: April 28-30
The spring NRA Rifle and Shotgun Instructor Training course will be held at Worth

Ranch. The course is for adults (21 or older) interested in becoming certified as an

NRA Rifle and NRA Shotgun Instructor. This is a 36-40 hour course. Attendance is mandatory for both weekends. The Longhorn Council has 20 slots available for this

course. All slots are first-come first-served to first 20 fully paid participants.
